Can’t sleep and can’t win
Everything rains down at once
Head up means I drown
Just feeling lazy
Let’s do nothing today that
Moves our lives forward
Bitterness and bile
Hot tears and a runny nose
Hours and hours wasted
New rules for homework
Don’t care if it’s right or wrong
Just calm yourself down
I used to do one
But now I try hard for two
Will it next be three?
You can create or
You can orchestrate, but can
You ever do both?
Your peers see you lead
While old guard sees too much risk
Walk the middle path
There will come a time
When you are forced to wing it
See what you’re made of
Keep asking questions
‘Til you fully understand
Then make decisions
Some things just take time
When you rush them you change them
Wreck their potential
Put it on the screen
And show us all how it works
Seeing makes it so
You can do their job
With your hands tied and eyes closed
But that’s not success
We’re still together
Because of things in common
Our kids, past, and fear
We are just moving
In opposite directions
And farther apart
She wants to excel
But won’t work hard or listen
Next comes bitterness
Sometimes I marvel
At how good I really am
And how unnoticed
Teach them how to think
And how to approach problems
Then let them do it
Internet is down
Time to catch up on filing
And trade magazines
Show them some new things
Watch their honest reactions
Stand up or sit down?
What they do for work
Is not what I do for work
But it is useful
Can’t blame them for things
They have no way of knowing
Your job to tell them
Having fun or fear
Is not always a clear choice
Sometimes you have both
Let’s drop some more bombs
On those people on TV
Protects our freedom
Even grandparents
Get tired and crabby when
Their schedule changes
Running for my life
Not the one I live today
The one tomorrow
Please, not on Friday
That is my day to catch up
On sleep and on work
New ways of thinking
Become new ways of being
Each and every time
Lead by example
Model the right behaviors
Grow along with them
Changing your routine
Gives you new energy and
A new view of you
Running out of steam
